JANBA Turns Silver in San Jose
1999
marked the 25th anniversary of the JANBA tournament and the fourth time it has been held in San Jose, California.
Nearly 1,000 bowlers participated in the tournament. Out of this contingent, a select group emerged as this year's event champions.
1999 also saw three members inducted into the JANBA Hall of Fame in two categories. Sayo Togami of San Jose, CA and Tac Handa, also from San Jose, were inducted for "Meritorious Service". Diana Ohashi of Seattle, WA, entered the Hall under the "Performance" category.
On March 26th, 1999, the Nichi Bei Times of San Francisco published an article titled "Celebrating a Nikkei Cultural Institution: JANBA Tournament Holds Silver Anniversary in San Jose" as part of their "Friday Focus" section.
